I had the absolute privilege of MCing the Roar in Business event for @Brisbane Roar at Suncorp Stadium—a gig that combined everything I love:
- live sport (the beautiful game)
- leadership and business
- community
and great food and drink (of course).
Hosting a panel with former Socceroos Matt McKay, Jade North, and former Matilda, Elissia Carnavas was an honour.
🎤 Small hiccup: our second mic decided to sit this one out, so there was a lot of pass the mic, but footballers are great at quick transitions, so we made it work.
What I learned from our conversation:
🔸 Matt McKay reminded us that the boring stuff wins championships. Ange Postecoglou had them training with mannequins, forcing precision. One training session, they could only pass below waist height. The lesson? Mastery comes from relentless, repetitive effort. His secret to success? More hours than anyone else.
🔸 Elissia Carnavas shared a powerful truth: opportunities don’t always come twice. If a door opens, take the shot—because you never know when (or if) it’ll open again.
🔸 Jade North shared a fun career highlight —not winning a title (though he's won many), but playing against his hero, Ronaldinho. Sometimes, success isn’t just about achievements—it’s about the full-circle moments that remind us why we started.
And because football loves a bit of last-minute drama… the Brisbane Roar finished 1-1 against Melbourne Victory, with Victory snatching a late equaliser in extra time.
